So I actually spent the ten minutes required to make my very own all-natural, chemical-free, all-purpose vinegar cleaner, and I have to report I am pleasantly surprised with the results.
So surprised in fact, I plan to buy adorable glass spray bottles, fill them with this magic cleaning solution, and gift them to our friends and family this Christmas.
Why should you start ditching the household name cleaning products you know and love? Because white vinegar is a disinfectant, deodorizer and cuts through grease; it’s a cleaner that’s as strong as it is natural.
Use white vinegar to wipe out household bacteria like salmonella, E. coli and other harmful bacteria. These types of bacteria can linger and cause infections including pneumonia, bloodstream infections, wound infections and meningitis.
Still don’t believe me? Here’s some science: According to Canada’s National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health, the acid in vinegar crosses into the cell membrane of bacteria and triggers a release of protons, which causes the bacteria cell to die. Wham!
What You’ll Need
- 1 spray bottle, 16 oz – 25oz is a good size (standard Windex bottle is 23oz)
- You can buy these bottles in the cleaning section at Target, near the dustpans
- 1 part distilled white vinegar (grocery store)
- 1 part water
- 5 – 15 drops of your favorite essential oil (citrus, lavender, tea tree & oregano compliment especially well)
Unscrew your spray top bottle and fill about halfway up with water. Add equal parts white vinegar, and finish off with 5-15 drops of essential oils. Use less drops for a smaller bottle, and more drops for a larger bottle. Shake gently before each use and go spray-crazy!
