How does CBD relieve pain? The short answer is that the cannabis is highly effective in treating two key areas of overall health, pain and inflammation. Cannabis does this by working with the ECS, which controls the body's pain and inflammation centers. Can you think of a disease that does not come with inflammation and pain? I can’t.
Ladies and Gentlemen, as an MMJ patient, I’m all about finding new ways to medicate and experience pain relief. As vaping and edibles still remain top methods of medicating, I’ve recently come to know and love a member of the topicals family – a medicated salve, or body rub.
It’s like mega strength pain reliever, wrapped in a luxurious and hydrating mixture of coconut and other soothing essential oils. My most recent purchase is literally a small deodorant sized stick of medicated salve. You apply it directly on your skin for muscle aches, joint pain or skin irritations, wherever needs a little extra attention. The active ingredient? Cannabidiol hemp oil, or CBD. CBD hemp oil is made from high-CBD, low-THC hemp. Because hemp contains only trace amounts of THC, these hemp oil products are non-psychoactive. This makes it a safer, less controversial alternative, while still offering significant health benefits. Smooth skin, no pain, no munchies? Sign me up.

Cannabis benefits a wide variety of illnesses and ailments, but why? Medical Science! It boils down to the fact that some of the active pharmacological components of the cannabis plant mimic an internal, biochemical harm reduction system in the human body that keeps our health in balance, otherwise known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
The ECS is controlled by chemicals that our body produces called endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids are responsible for keeping our most critical biological functions in balance – think sleep, appetite, the immune system, pain and more. When the body is out of balance and enters a state of stress, endocannabinoids go to work to fix the problem. The medically active components in the cannabis plant mimic endocannabinoids and are not only effective in helping the body manage a crises but also in the restoration process when the body’s naturally producing endocannabinoids are not able to restore balance alone.

Go forth and salve!
