Kelly first found herself in a yoga studio in 2008 while training as a competitive athlete in college. Her rowing coach gave the team an opportunity to choose their afternoon workout: strength training, cardio, or a yoga class. A unanimous vote brought Kelly to the mat for the first time, and she experienced something curious and unique. After years of physical and emotional wear and tear, Kelly chose the mat and began to channel her competitive spirit in a different way.
Kelly’s purpose is to promote the importance of mindfulness: a moment-by moment, judgment-free awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Kelly’s goal, through teaching yoga and meditation, is to remind people that we are human-beings, not human-doings. Stress and anxiety are prevalent in our modern lives, and Kelly is a firm believer in fighting stress and finding serenity through the art of yoga and peaceful choices.
Kelly is an insured, Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 200-hour level through the Yoga of Energy Flow with Daniel Orlansky, Liz Own, Chip Hartranft and Carrie Tyler in Arlington, MA. The core study in The Yoga of Energy Flow Teacher Training is Vinyasa Flow Yoga in which breath, movement and asana (posture) are combined with physical and energetic alignments to create a powerful practice. Yoga of Energy Flow incorporates Kundalini Yoga, Meridian Yoga and Kali Ray Tri Yoga methodology and movements. Together, this transformative yoga method integrates physical body strength and flexibility as well as subtle body energy cultivation.
Kelly is also a certified in Chakra Therapy through Alanna Kaivalya. The chakras are a subtle body communication system which is calibrated to our highest levels of health and well-being. Some human experiences can cause blockages within this energetic nervous system (think clogged arteries), while others can break up and dissolve these blockages (think energetic Drano). By tuning in, we can help the body heal, release, and find our natural balance. Our issues live in our tissues, and the chakra system helps us heal matter with spirit.
